Wayne County Sheriff Richard Pisciotti today announced the deployment of a new mobile command center for the County. The new command center, a 26 foot custom built trailer, replaces a retrofitted motor home, that was purchased used by the County, approximately 10 years ago. The new command center was built by Rollingstar Custom Trailers of Barneveld, NY. Rollingstar, a division of Mohawk Ltd., builds emergency response trailers for public safety agencies around the country. The trailer was purchased with federal Homeland Security funds. No county tax monies were used. Partnerships were developed with other County agencies to provide equipment and set-up systems in the trailer. 911, Information Technologies, Buildings and Grounds, County Highway, County Health, and Emergency Management, were all involved in the project. The command center consists of two main areas. The front area is a communications section, equipped with five fully functional computer work stations, emergency radios, a computer server loaded with emergency management software, large display monitors, and wireless internet. The communications area is also equipped with a computerized radio interoperable system, which allows numerous on-scene commanders from different public safety agencies to all communicate on the same radio frequency. The rear is a conference area equipped with laptop computers, multiple computer networking jacks, maps and a large display screen to view wireless on-scene cameras. The trailer was also designed for remote access to the main county computer servers for criminal records, fingerprints and mug shots, and 911 computer aided dispatch programs. It is also equipped with cell and satellite phone service. A 25KW mobile generator, which was acquired by the County Health Department from grant funds, will be used to supply power to the trailer. A one ton pick-up truck, previously purchased by the Emergency Management Office with grant funds, will be temporally used to haul the trailer. Another federally funded pick- up truck is currently on order. The mobile command post trailer will respond to any emergency in the county at the request of any police, fire, ambulance, or other emergency response agency. Sheriff Pisciotti stated a great deal of research and planning went into the development of the new command center, making it one of the most advanced in the state. He further stated that the contribution of time and talent of personnel from other county agencies was also a key to the success of the project.
